Obstructed Views
Pitch side wheelchair supporters
Their views are frequently obstructed by stewards, photographers and police. Under the Accessible Stadia Guidelines, to which all Premier League clubs are committed to implementing, 75% of these positions should be elevated. Very few clubs comply!
Wheelchair and ambulant supporters
Since the tragedy at Hillsborough, football supporters are prevented from standing but they do in times of excitement and in the away section they ALWAYS STAND THROUGHOUT THE GAME!
This causes disabled supporters who cannot stand or get up easily to have their views blocked, ruining their enjoyment of the game. Such viewing positions must be planned on the basis that able bodied supporters will stand.
Architects take noted and consult with the clubs Disability Supporters Associations.
Better still go and actually sit with wheelchair and ambulant supporters and experience the difficulties!
